Types of Periodic Tests
Visual Inspection only – inspect for any obvious damage or deterioration of materials and equipment, exposed parts , missing covers, labels, live cables – No power down required
Visual inspection supplemented by testing – as above plus a thorough inspection of:
- The main switch gear and all dis boards
- Fuses and MCB are correctly rated
- Fuses are clean and not over heating
- Conductor terminals and tight and correctly lugged
- Busbar connections are properly made and clamps are tight
- Cable inspections – suitability, condition, fixing, glands, earth connections, any signs of over heating
- Equipment inspections – deterioration, mechanical damage, overheating, condition of flexes, fixings
- Light fitting inspections
TESTING
- Continuity of circuit protective conductors at all metal accessories and equipment within a 3.5m from floor level and 10% of all light fittings
- Continuity of all bonding conductors and earth clamps
- Continuity of all ring circuits conductors
- Insulation resistance between live conductors
- An electrical separation test
- Polarity at the board and at the board
- Earth fault loop impedance
- Test all residual current devices
- The resistance of ever earth electrode
- A manual operation test on all MCB, RCD, switch fuses and isolators.
- Survey, visual inspection supplemented by testing – as above plus the following information in accordance with IEE regulations 514-09-01.
- Distribution board schedule
- Schematic diagrams
- Installed details
- Positions of fixed equipment
What we do
- Assign a single point contact at HCL for you to deal with
- Our single point contact will always be assigned to your individual installation and will be able to update you on any of the items or work
- Install robust policies and procedures to ensure safety at all times
- Determine the extent of the inspection and the current controls in place
- Determine the time and date for the inspection
- Agree down times or isolation periods for machines and equipment
- Take complete control during the process of all power supplies in the building.
- Implement a shut down procedure and ensure that this is communicated to all personnel in the building or entering the building.
- Power back up on completion of the work
- Hand the installation back over to yourselves on completion
- Detail any limitations to the inspection, i.e. concealed cables
- Produce certificate of compliance
- Diarise timescales and co ordinate any re tests to ensure compliance with regulations is always in place
- Retain copy reports on file to later use as and when required.
Periodic Testing Report
The report will clearly demonstrate to all, that under the health and safety at work regulations you have fully exercised your duty of care, and adhered the current IEE wiring regulation.
The report will cover the results of the tests carried out, the condition of the installation, a list of recommendations, and a conclusion stating that the installation is safe or unsafe. Any unsafe installations will be isolated and warning signs placed on it prior to the engineer leaving site.
Costs associated with any of the recommendation or any unsafe installations will be forwarded on ASAP. Whenever possible we will aim to carry out these works immediately with your approval to reduce any hazards or potential down time.
